Supporting and strengthening opportunities for the next generation of extraordinary people

Our Softball Tournament will follow the ISA Tournament Rules below.  NOTE: The Foundation is not responsible for any typos or mistakes.  ALL INTERPRETATIONS AND DECISIONS OF THE CHIEF UMPIRE WILL BE FINAL.

* * *

Base Stealing
A runner is entitled to advance with a liability to be put out if they attempt to advance after a pitch to the batter, in which the ball passes home plate, or hits the ground, or hits home plate.  When the runner fails to keep contact with the base to which he or she is entitled until the pitch ball touches the ground, passes home plate or is batted.
Effect: The ball is dead and the runner is out.

Base Burglar
Base Burglar (if used) must be designated before the game to the umpire and the following conditions apply:
* Can only be used once per half inning.
* Cannot be a position player or EP (extra player).
* May not be used simultaneously with a Courtesy Runner.
* In Coed both male & female burglar may be used once per inning (male runs for male & female runs for either).
* May be utilized as a regular substitute, however, that team will lose the Base Burglar for the remainder of the game.

The Courtesy Runner can be used whenever the Base Burglar is not, including part way through the game.  One person may be run for in the Men's and one of each gender in the Coed. The Courtesy Runner must be the preceding out or, if no outs, the last possible batter .

Run Rule
A predetermined run rule will be used in all games. A team ahead by 20 or more scored runs after 3 innings of play, 15 after 4 innings, & 10 after 5 or more innings will be awarded a win.

Players

You may bat 12 players in state only.  You may start with 9 players.  If you start with 9 players, no out will occur for the 1Oth batting position. If you start with 10 or more players, you must take an out for every player dropped when no substitute is available. Note: If there are 2 outs, an out will not occur on the missing batter, if the immediately preceding batter is walked, whether intentional or not.  The slot will be skipped and the following batter shall take his or her scheduled turn at bat.  Under no circumstances, will a team be allowed to start or continue with less than 9 players.

Count
3-3, Count begins 0-0.  3 balls results in a walk. If strike two is called, batter gets one more swing. The strikezone is that space over any part of home plate which is between the batter's front shoulder and the batter's knees when the natural batting stance is assumed. Any part of the ball passing through this strike zone is considered a strike.

Pitching
A) 4-10 feet from the ground. 5 seconds to release the ball. Any motions are acceptable. (Pump fakes similar to USSSA are legal).  B) A pitcher's box consisting of the area from the front of the pitcher's plate, 50 feet from home plate shall be used. The pitcher must release the ball after coming to a complete stop with one foot or both feet in contact with the pitchers plate or within the pitcher's box.  One foot must remain in contact with the plate/box when the pitch is released with an underhand motion.  A step simultaneous with the release of the ball may be taken in any direction, with the free foot.  The pitcher must be facing the batter when delivering the pitch. The catcher must remain within the lines of the catcher's box until the pitched ball is batted, touches the ground or home plate, or reaches the catcher's box.  This area should be chalked off.  This box allows the pitcher to release the ball from 50 feet to 56 feet from home plate.
